Final Weeks At Golden Gate Fields Full of Entertainment

Golden Gate Fields summer concert series includes performances by Busta Groove, La Incomparable Banda Tierra Del Sol and Tainted Love, providing the soundtrack to thoroughbred horse races and betting.

2011-05-29
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, May 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) Along with providing exciting horse races and the enthralling betting that accompanies them, Golden Gate Fields is ushering in summer with a concert series that will rival other San Francisco local events for pure family entertainment.

Golden Gate Fields, Northern California's premier destination for horse races and family-centered San Francisco local events, will host a live concert on Memorial Day and both of the following Dollar Day Sundays.

The fun begins on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30) with a free Family Day concert by Busta Groove. Memorial Day will also feature a free stadium chair giveaway, pony rides, bounce houses, balloon artists and face painters. Gates open at 10 a.m., as will the simulcast rooms for simulcast betting. On site races begin at 12:45 p.m.

The concert series continues on Sunday, June 5, with a distinct latin flair. Fiesta Hispana (Hispanic Heritage Day) will feature music from La Incomparable Banda Tierra Del Sol. Telemundo, 93.3 La Raza and members of the San Jose Earthquakes' Major League Soccer club will also be part of the fun.

Following June 11th's Belmont Stakes celebration that includes a wine festival sponsored by East Bay Vintners Alliance, join the band Tainted Love as they help salute some of the people who help make San Francisco local events possible - local law enforcement personnel.
Along with the live concert, Sunday, Jun 12th's Heroes and Horses Day will feature real police helicopters, squad cars and motorcycles.

The Sunday concerts are all part of Dollar Days, during which fans can enjoy admission, parking, a program, a hot dog, a soda and a beer for $1 apiece. And all Sunday Dollar Days admission allows fans to see a full slate of horse races and participate in betting track side and on simulcasts.
Limited group packages are available. For information on booking, call (510) 559-7390.

About Golden Gate Fields
Golden Gates Fields, Northern California's premier horse racing facility, commenced its first meeting on Feb. 1, 1941. Due to poor track conditions caused by heavy rains, the inaugural meeting lasted only five days. America's involvement in World War II meant racing at the track wouldn' t resume for six years, and the track became a naval amphibious landing craft base.

Golden Gate Fields reopened on Sept. 9, 1947, and since has hosted many of the sport's greatest thoroughbred horses and jockeys. The great Bill Shoemaker, who would go on to win 11 Triple Crown races, scored his first career victory at Golden Gate Fields on April 20, 1949, aboard Shafter V. He retired 41 years later with 8,833 wins.

Through the years champion horses like Citation (1948 Horse of the Year), Noor (Handicap Horse of 1950), Determine (1954 Kentucky Derby winner), John Henry (Horse of the Year in 1981 and 1984), Brown Bess (Female Grass Horse of 1989), Tight Spot (Grass Horse of 1991), and Lost in the Fog (Sprinter of 2005) have competed at Golden Gate Fields.

Golden Gate Fields features an elegant Turf Club, a vast and comfortable Club House, smart simulcast rooms for betting on horse races across the nation, and plenty of free seating in the general admission areas, all of which will be open for the Preakness Stakes.
