MIAMI, FL, May 29, 2011

Since 2005, Atlantic Care has been fighting the battle against cancer on the front lines of Latin America. Located in the heart of South Miami, Atlantic Care has access to some of the best health care facilities in the world, as well as, top specialists and is aiming to stretch its access across the border to many neighboring countries that do not have the latest medical treatments at their disposition.

To date, Atlantic Care is the only company of its kind that focuses on every aspect of patient care. They coordinate airport pick up and drop off, living arrangements, schedule and attend all patient consultations and procedures, find a top specialist for your diagnosis, and even set you up with a prepaid cell phone. This is only scratching the surface when speaking of the services Atlantic Care provides for international patients. "This isn't a chauffeur service," says Margarethe Mahr, President and founder of Atlantic Care. "We are with the patient every step of the way. We go with the patient to every single appointment; we stay with them, talk to them, support them, ask questions for them, explain things to them and, most importantly, fight for the best care they can possibly receive. That is our mission."

The goal is to reach patients outside the US and educate them about their diagnosis and all of the treatments that are accessible. "Often times, I encounter not only patients, but reputable physicians who are not aware that certain treatments are available," says Margarethe.

Nowadays, the technology in medicine is so advanced that no longer do complicated diagnoses require complicated or invasive procedures. Atlantic Care is consistently offering CyberKnife treatment to patients who qualify for the procedure. CyberKnife treatment is the most advanced type of stereotactic radiosurgery that treats tumors in the brain, head and neck, lungs, spine, liver, breast, pancreas, prostate, kidneys and uterus with greater precision than radiotherapy, for example, hence, it has little to no side effects allowing the patient a significantly quicker recovery if one is even necessary. Over the last 5 years, CyberKnife installations have nearly tripled and have become a popular way to treat benign and malignant tumors as well as other conditions. This could be due to the fact that it is very convenient for the patient because they can return to their status prior to the treatment, immediately after the procedure.

"We offer complex surgery, albeit with hospitalization of roughly five days and much shorter recovery time, but we want patients to know that this is not their only option. Minimally invasive surgeries require 2 to 4 days of hospitalization at the most, with less surgical risks, less recovery, less time away from your job and less cost. Conventional Invasive surgeries have compounding costs. Not only do patients have to pay for the procedure, but they have to lie in bed recovering for weeks at a time. That is time that you're not able to produce income. That is time that family members, who are taking care of you, aren't able to produce income, and the cost is much higher than with minimally invasive surgery. We want for patients to get back on the horse quickly, so they don't lose another minute of their lives to their condition."
