Company Launches Employee Biggest Loser Contest: "Howe Much Can You Lose?"

2011-05-31
SAN DIEGO, CA, May 31, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Bill Howe Family of Companies has launched its own fitness challenge to encourage employees to lose weight, tone up and start feeling great. "Howe Much Can You Lose?" is a 12 week, voluntary competition for Bill Howe employees and their families. The winner will be chosen based on the percentage of weight lost and will win a year gym membership, a cash prize and office bragging rights.

To assist participants in their weight loss journey, Bill and Tina Howe have brought in experts Kerri Calver, massage therapist, holistic nutritionist and owner of A Better Balanced Body and her assistant, Gigi. Kerri and Gigi come into the office every week to weigh in the participants and offer fitness and nutrition advice for the group. Kerri also hosts weekly team workouts at Miramar Lake and offers side one-on-one counsel for employees.

Other perks of the contest include a group VIP membership discount at Road Runner Sports, one month membership to 24-Hour Fitness, and organized team workouts every week at Fiesta Island. Additionally, a breakfast buffet of fruit, yogurt and granola are offered to employees twice a week and a salad bar is hosted at the office once a month.

Bill Howe customers are also being encouraged to get involved. The company is creating a "Customer Cookbook" compiled of all of our customers' favorite healthy recipes. Customers can submit their recipes to Stefanie@billhowe.com and they will receive a gift card to Jamba Juice and a copy of the final recipe book.

In March 2011, the Bill Howe Family of Companies augmented their sponsorship of the American Heart Association's Heart Beach Ball with the "Howe" Healthy is Your Heart Drawing Contest. The contest encouraged children throughout San Diego County to enter their drawing of a healthy heart and to describe how they keep their hearts healthy. This two month contest was a jump-start to the company's fitness venture. The weight loss challenge is how they plan to keep the ball rolling.

There are many business benefits to encouraging employees to live active and healthy lifestyles. In addition to reducing the number or health benefit claims and employees calling in sick - productivity improves dramatically when employees are feeling their best. Energy levels increase while stress, anxiety and depression levels are reduced. Employees who are working to achieve optimal health also have an increase in metal clarity, vigor, speed and accuracy of mental calculations.
