Rising stars from House of Tribes set to illuminate the stage at 'Vegas FRINGE FEST' in glitzy Hollywood style!

House of Tribes announces young up-and-coming actors to present "LOCAL CELEBRITY" at Las Vegas live theater festival.

2011-06-01
LAS VEGAS, NV, June 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) Actors from the House of Tribes (H.O.T.) will compete in the Vegas Fringe Fest during a live theatre performance of LOCAL CELEBRITY, at the Las Vegas Little Theater, June 3-12. Rising stars Kasey Bean, winner of the Las Vegas Grand Slam spoken word competition, 'Lightning Lonnie Love', an up-and-coming boxing champion and Ms. Shayla Love, round out a powerhouse line-up of new talent. Love, a former radio personality of 88.1 (Power 88) was recently cast in her first television role for a TV project slated for SHOWTIME. H.O.T., a talent development, performing and media arts production lab, is a collection of over twenty young, multi-ethnic emerging artists of varying and multifaceted backgrounds. Each artist collaborates with, and is under the tutelage of, Lalanya Abner along with industry veterans like John Singleton, acting guru Susan Batson, and her son Carl Ford, along with choreographer Allan Dekko and Performance Coach Shelley Lynn and Dramaturge Ruth Palileo.

LOCAL CELEBRITY, is the brain child of Charles Drew and Abner. Drew and Abner have collaborated on several successful projects together; including the play SUMMER G which starred JUMPING THE BROOM's leading man Laz Alonzo. SUMMER G the play was produced as a feature film by Andrew Lauren, the son of Ralph Lauren. LOCAL CELEBRITY takes a fascinating look at society's obsession with celebrities and a media driven, bird's eye inspection into the lives of the mega stars of pop culture. Oh, those deeply flawed, tragic but yet beautiful, seekers of fame, who thrive on scandal and create controversial public personas that fuel the fire to their fame and ultimately their tragic end. Many costuming and music selections for LOCAL CELEBRITY were inspired by Kanye West's RUNAWAY; and heavily influenced by Jean Genet's TH E BLACKS and George C. Wolfe's THE COLORED MUSEUM. Abner states, "I love the bold message, the risk and the originality of both pieces and carried that creative muse into our play. With characters representing Paris Hilton, Nicki Minaj and Ludacris, Local Celebrity is sure to be a crowd pleaser."

This marks the second year of the Vegas FRINGE FEST event, which is an assortment of performances from a variety of actors of no more than 90 minutes each. H.O.T. will compete for a cash prize and the title, Best of Fringe. Students performed a play FRINGE FEST in 2010 entitled, SOIL under the name Absolute Theatre Company - a supernatural narrative about the prison brotherhood - part of the "Keep Young Men of Color Off the Streets and Out of Jail" project. The original Edinburgh Fringe Festival concept (founded in 1947) covers mainstream theatre, comedy, music and many other genres - and is known globally for its innovation and spontaneity. The Las Vegas Little Theatre is located at 3920 Schiff Drive, Las Vegas.

Two year old House of Tribes, whose focus is to train, showcase and serve as a launching pad for budding artists, is under the direction and management of Lalanya Abner. "I am deeply moved by the commitment, dedication and genius of the emerging artists, I have been given the privilege to work with. There is no greater reward than when I see their growth, watch them break away from the pact and FLY," says Abner. Abner who co-wrote and directed LOCAL CELEBRITY is a seasoned actor - with film and television credits that include Law & Order, The Bernie Mac Show, Girlfriends, Barbershop and Platinum. Her film credits also include "G," World Trade Center, Sarang Song, Fat Girls Guide to Yoga. Mentored by maverick Director, John Singleton Abner is passionate about bringing performance art to the African American film/theater community. She makes her home in Las Vegas, and refers to herself as THE BLACK SWAN (seeing is believing).
