Top Three Cosmetic Surgery Procedures to Advance Your Career

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, June 03, 2011 (Press-News.org) Numerous studies have shown that appearance does matter when it comes to the world of business.  Certainly, there are those who have achieved great confidence and success, regardless of their looks.  But many, especially among baby boomers, believe that maintaining a more youthful, refreshed appearance can help them retain a solid career footing, especially in youth-oriented industries.
 
People are always asking me, "What are the best procedures for one's career? " I wish there was one simple answer for that question.  But the answer is as varied as those who may ask it. I also like to caution anyone considering plastic surgery that you should only undergo plastic surgery because it is something that you want to do for yourself and not for others.
 
You are not a good candidate for plastic surgery if you have unrealistic expectations regarding the outcomes such as:  expecting your spouse or significant other to like you better because you had surgery, doing it for others or expecting acceptance, promotions or the ability to get a job you couldn't otherwise, just because you had plastic surgery.
 
These warnings do not negate that an edge at work can be the result of successful rejuvenating surgery, improved appearance or simply the enhancement in self confidence that results from such surgery.  It's a tricky paradigm.
 
All of that said, there are some procedures that seem to be especially popular among my career-oriented patients.  Here's a quick look at some of those:
 
Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery continues to be one of the most requested plastic surgeries.  I find that men, in particular, have begun turning to eyelid surgery as a way to look younger.  This procedure is one that really can help you look more rested and refreshed. In fact, many of my patients have told me that people often can't figure out what has changed, but recognize that they look better.  

Cosmetic eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Specifically, eyelid surgery can treat:
·         Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
·         Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the upper eyelids
·         Bags under the eyes
·         Droopiness of the lower eyelids, showing white below the iris (colored portion of the eye)
·         Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
Eyelid surgery is usually performed on adult men and women who have healthy facial tissue and muscles and have realistic goals for improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids and surrounding area.
 
Face-lift

I have found facelifts are a great option for women aged 50 and older. It seems like a woman who has a facelift is instantly transformed into someone who is happier with life and herself. Many feel added confidence, especially in fields where appearance is a key to advancement.  I have seen this in the entertainment field, in real estate and in other corporate climates as well.

Technically known as rhytidectomy, a facelift is a surgical procedure designed to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:
·         Sagging in the midface
·         Deep creases below the lower eyelids
·         Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
·         Fat that has fallen or is displaced
·         Loss of muscle tone in the lower face may create jowls
·         Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw can make even a person of normal weight appear to have a double chin
When considering having a facelift, it is important to remember that it does not change your fundamental appearance and it cannot stop the aging process. A facelift can achieve what non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot.  However, those non-surgical procedures may help delay the time at which a facelift becomes appropriate and can also help complement the surgical procedure.

Breast augmentation/enhancement   
The decision to undergo breast augmentation/enhancement surgery is a very personal one. For women who have lived with very small or under-developed breasts or with breasts that are asymmetrical, as well as those who have experienced changes in the appearance of their breasts due to child-bearing or age, it is a procedure that can definitely boost self-image and confidence both at work and in life.
In recent years, I have seen a growing number of women who have had children and now want to get some of their pre-mommy looks back again.  Many women see their breasts grow smaller and less firm after having children.
