Someone Cares Soup Kitchen Celebrates 25th Anniversary at Annual Gala

Annual Fundraising Event Honors Founder, Celebrates Significant Milestone

COSTA MESA, CA, June 03, 2011

Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, a Costa Mesa based non-profit organization, announced that today it will celebrate its 25th anniversary gala. With a theme titled "Dreams Come True", the annual gala honors the vision set forth by Merle Hatleberg 25 years ago. The event will take place on Saturday, June 11 from 6-9 p.m. at the soup kitchen, located at 720 West 19th Street in Costa Mesa. The honorable Evelyn Hart, former mayor of Newport Beach will serve as chairperson, and the honorable Peter Buffa, respected columnist for the Daily Pilot and former mayor of Costa Mesa, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
"We are delighted to celebrate this important milestone with the community at this year's gala," said Shannon Santos, executive director of the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen. "We have seen countless individuals walk through our doors over the years and are grateful to have been able to serve the community and help those in need."
Currently, the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen is open seven days per week, with meals being served Monday through Friday from 1-4 p.m., and a pancake breakfast every Saturday and Sunday morning. Of those served, approximately 35 percent are families with school-aged children, 20 percent are homeless, 25 percent are working poor, unemployed and underemployed, 5 percent are mentally or physically challenged and 15 percent are senior citizens. The kitchen serves more than 350 people daily across Orange County—from the working poor and economically disadvantaged to families with school-aged children and senior citizens.
Previous years' honorees will be in attendance to celebrate this significant occasion for Someone Cares Soup Kitchen. Tickets are priced at $135 per person or $250 per couple, and all proceeds from the gala will support the comprehensive span of program services offered by the soup kitchen. If you would like to attend or receive information on becoming involved, call Shannon Santos at 949-548-8861.
