Huggins, who spoke at PICPA's 2008 Women's Conference, educated the audience about how to better understand the various communication styles and preferences of each generation in the workforce. An expert in generational issues and human resources and author of GENerate Performance! Unleashing the Power of a Multigenerational Workforce, she discussed generational leadership and explored how businesses can identify and leverage the strengths of each generation. Huggins also addressed what businesses can do now to prepare for the demographic shifts.
"While there are many differences between generations in the workplace, there are just as many, if not more, similarities in relation to communication style and preferences," said Huggins. It is imperative that businesses focus on the strengths of each generation and learn how to leverage these synergies as a means of positively impacting employee engagement, productivity and retention.
