Terrys Fabrics See a Focus on Responsible Spending

The economic crisis has caused consumers to be spend less on high-priced purchases such as furniture or trips to foreign countries. So now more people are focusing their attention on the home and the way in which they spend their money.

2011-06-05
STAFFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, June 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) In recent times, the economic crisis has caused consumers to be spend less on high-priced purchases such as furniture for the home, trips to foreign countries and expensive restaurant dining. With this change in spending habits, more people are now focusing their attention on the home and the way in which they spend their money.

Before the financial crisis, many consumers would happily spend money on unnecessary purchases such as designer clothing but today, consumers are focusing their attention on what is known as "Creating It Yourself" or C.I.Y.

Over the past three years or so there has also been an increase in the number of people purchasing sewing machines that are looking to make items for the home and save themselves money. With an ever-increasing number of people becoming more financially conscientious and viewing consumerism as an unnecessary way to spend money, many people across the nation are now looking to adapt furniture in the house or make new furniture from raw materials.

Due to this increase in the number of sewing machines sold, it is understandable that the amount of fabric sold has also increased. Consumers are now looking to make their own household furniture including sofas and chairs and things such as curtains, cushions and many other household items that promote the idea of C.I.Y and responsible spending.

Comments made by the director of Terrys Fabrics explained: "There is without doubt that our customers are taking a much greater interest in creating items for the home. There have been numerous TV programmes that promote the concept of C.I.Y and this has consequently driven the nation to take more Responsibility over their financial standing, whilst helping people to become more creative in their own home also".

"We have also seen many other existing customers now taking an interest and asking advice regarding their current or proposed sewing projects. With this, our employees have had to spend time educating themselves over the correct procedures needed to measure up materials and give helpful and accurate advice to our customers."

For more information about Terrys Fabrics either come and see our range of blinds, curtain fabrics and rugs at Stockport/Stoke or visit us online on www.terrysfabrics.co.uk.
