Sculptor Guy J. Bellaver Participates in the neXt gallery at Shelby

Sculpture/Guy J. Bellaver is pleased to announce Bellaver's selection to participate in the inaugural Pop Up gallery - the neXt gallery at Shelby - an initiative of the St. Charles Arts Council.

2011-06-07
ST. CHARLES, IL, June 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) Sculptor Guy J. Bellaver has been invited to participate in the neXt gallery - a Pop Up gallery program sponsored by the St. Charles Arts Council. The gallery's theme is Abstract/Primitive, and Bellaver's sculptures Lissome, Quarks II, Quarks III, Quarks IV, and Percheron.Q are in the show and sale. Says Bellaver, "I think that I can speak for every artist involved in this program when I say that this [Pop Up gallery] is an outstanding idea, and the support that the program will provide artists is significant. And, I think that I can safely add to that how impressive the space is, and the curating [by guest curator Monique Meloche] has taken a broad assortment of artistic styles and media and made a very impressive show."

Bellaver will also be one of the artists giving an Artist Demonstration at the gallery on Friday, June 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, June 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. He will demonstrate how he combines 21st century tools like the iMac, with ancient tools and knives to sculpt in clay.

The neXt gallery at Shelby is located in the Shelby Building, 210 South Fifth Street, Suite 100, St. Charles, Illinois. Information about the gallery, the artists participating in the gallery, its hours of operation, and special events taking place during the month that the gallery is in the Shelby space, may be found at the gallery web site, http://www.nextgallerystcharles.org. Or you may call the gallery at 630.429.0973.

About the neXt gallery Program:
The neXt gallery program is a collaboration that promotes local/regional artists, the St. Charles Arts Council, and the St. Charles business community. The program is called neXt gallery, because you never know where it will pop up next! The Arts Council encourages building owners, volunteers, art supporters, and art collectors to get involved in this program to support the arts and St. Charles, and encourages artists to contact the SCAC to learn about neXt gallery opportunities.

About the St. Charles Arts Council:
The SCAC will serve all those individuals (professionals, amateurs, and students) who produce tangible, consumable works of the imagination and all organizations, businesses, and groups that include and represent those people. This would be arts and cultural activities in their broadest sense, including graphic, plastic, and decorative arts, architecture, crafts, literature and poetry, music, theater, and dance. The primary long-range goal is the transformation of St. Charles into an arts community/an arts magnet/a nationally-known arts market. Ultimately we foresee a municipal arts center, more working artists and opportunities in arts education, many privately-owned galleries, performance venues, and related arts businesses, and a downtown architecture and streetscape conducive to both the aesthetics and business of art.

Immune cells link pregnancy and tumor spread

2011-06-07
Individuals with cancer often do not die as a result of their initial tumor but as a result of tumors at distant sites that are derived from the initial tumor. Pregnancy is a condition that seems to be permissive for tumor dissemination, as breast tumors arising during pregnancy display a tendency for early spread to distant sites (metastasis). Research in mice, led by Ivan Stamenkovic, at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, has now uncovered a possible reason for this. Stamenkovic and colleagues found that the increased metastasis from tumors of several different ...
