NY Abandoned Angels Rescue Cocktail Party Event Raises Funds For Dogs In Need

Grammy Award Winner Roberta Flack Makes Guest Appearance

2011-06-08
NEW YORK, NY, June 08, 2011 (Press-News.org) Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc. dba NY Abandoned Angels Rescue (NYAAR), a Queens-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of Cocker Spaniels and other breeds, hosted their first annual cocktail party fundraising event last month in Manhattan where they raised both awareness and funds to help local dogs in need.

"So far, we've raised approximately $25,000 which will help to lower our veterinary bill balances tremendously," said Madeline Hult Elghanayan, co-chair of NY Abandoned Angels Rescue and the event. "We have a lot of dogs in our rescue that are waiting for medical treatments and surgeries, so we truly appreciate any help the public may offer."

The funds raised at the event were generated from a variety of sources including corporate sponsorship, individual donors, ticket sales, a silent auction, and general donations.

Approximately 300 guests were in attendance at the cocktail party which was held at a luxury residential building on West 37th Street, provided by TF Cornerstone who also served as one of the event's sponsors. Guests were treated to a wine tasting, vodka and tequila bars, hors d'oeuvres, music by DJ Phoenix, and left with goodie bags.

Grammy Award winner and NY Abandoned Angels Rescue friend Roberta Flack performed her hit "Killing Me Softly With His Song" at the piano before auctioning off a personal vocal lesson which sold for $6,000. Other silent auction prizes included a stay at the Chambers Hotel, a necklace designed by Vera Wang, and dinner at STK, among others.

NY1 society reporter George Whipple was also on hand in the "Doggie Den" where guests had the opportunity to meet several dogs available for adoption. Whipple's coverage of the event aired on NY1 on May 27th.

"I'm thrilled that so many people came out to support our rescue," said Dolores Rodrigues, founder, NY Abandoned Angels Rescue. "In addition to monetary donations, we are always in need of foster homes for our homeless Angels, so the more awareness about our organization we generate, the better."

Donations of any amount to the rescue continue to be graciously accepted and appreciated by PayPal via the rescue's website at http://www.nyabandonedangels.com, or by check mailed to NY Abandoned Angels Rescue, P.O. Box 545426, Flushing, NY 11354. All donations are tax-deductible.
