ATLANTA, GA, June 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) P1 Groupe drivers Jeff Bucknum and Robert Stout left Watkins Glen International Raceway with an 8th place finish in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series Continental Tire 150 on Friday. After qualifying the car in 3rd place, Robert Stout was in good spirits, until receiving the news he would have to start from the rear of the pack following post qualifying inspection. Stout, Bucknum and the entire Mitchum team were on a mission to do what they could to push to the front, knowing their Camaro was one of the fastest cars in the field. During the race the #6 Mitchum Motorsports Camaro GS.R was running as fast as any car on the track. Stout continued to run fast times before handing the car over to Bucknum to bring home a solid finish. When Bucknum jumped in the Camaro nothing seemed to change as the car was lightening quick. Bucknum kept the car out of trouble for the remainder of the race, and the Mitchum Motorsports team pushed through the entire field for an 8th place finish, the duo's best finish of the season to date.
"The car handled well and we were so fast at the beginning of the race." stated Stout. "After we qualified third I knew we were going to have a car that would contend for this win. Jeff did a great job when he got in the car and clicked off some fast laps as well. Unfortunately, after we pushed to the front, we started to get shuffled back a bit in the late stages, but we'll take an 8th place finish. The team worked real hard to give Jeff and I a car that could contend so I am very pleased with that."
"Robert did a great job in the car, and I was looking to keep that kind of pace going throughout the remainder of the race." Bucknum added. "The car was fast all day long, and it's unfortunate that we got shuffled back a bit late, but the team battled all day long to place 8th." I'm excited about the direction of where this team is headed. I have all of the confidence in the world in Robert, and we're looking forward to Road America."
Following the Continental Tire 150 Mitchum Motorsports is currently 13th in team points for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series. Stout moved from fifth to fourth in the GS class Rookie of the Year standings.
The next scheduled race for Jeff and Robert will be June 24th at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This race can be on SPEED Channel on July 3rd at 1pm. All Times Eastern.
