STONE MOUNTAIN, GA, June 10, 2011 (Press-News.org) This year's theme is the Marketing & Branding of Urban Music." As we celebrate Black Music Month, SUMC Sr. VP Allen Johnston and I have come up with a wide range of performances by artists representing several genres, including Gospel, Neo Soul, R&B, Reggae, spoken word and Jazz. You name it it's at this year's SUMC. As we mix in industry veterans with folks who are just getting into the industry it's all about one thing and that is networking. As our industry continues to evolve in new areas such as tie ins with brands and film, we have to be ahead of the game. SUMC will be the catalyst for that change."
Baraka says he and his team are "always excited" about the future stars who may come out of SUMC and this year, there is one in particular that everyone is buzzing about. "We are happy to have alternative hip hop group FlowCity out of Delaware on board as performers. This group is currently in the midst of a major label bidding war. We also have veteran superstar Johnny Gill and artists like Heston, Jebron, Juanita Craft and Gina Hadley performing and to top it all off, we will be honoring platinum selling, Grammy Award winning act Arrested Development.
