NEW YORK, NY, June 14, 2011 (Press-News.org) Richard P. Brown, MD, Patricia Gerbarg, MD, and Yoga of the Mind Founder Heather Mason will teach "Breath-Body-Mind: Training for Trauma," at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Stockbridge, MA., August 28-September 2, 2011 (Sunday through Friday). This 6-day intensive will enable yoga teachers, yoga therapists, health care providers, and disaster relief workers to use mind-body healing techniques for self-care and to help their clients recover from stress and trauma.
Breath-Body-Mind is a fusion of ancient and modern mind-body practices that rapidly restore balance to stress-response systems by optimizing brain, heart, and lung function. Techniques developed and researched by Brown and Gerbarg, have been used successfully to treat military veterans as well as survivors of mass disasters, including the Southeast Asia tsunami, World Trade Center attacks, earthquake in Haiti, genocide in Rwanda, and war in Sudan. Their programs also relieve burnout and secondary trauma in caregivers.
In this 6-day trauma-sensitive training, didactic sessions will cover neurophysiology, current research, clinical issues, and teaching methods. Experiential training will include movement, breathing, meditation, and practice-teaching under supervision. These unique techniques quickly calm the central fear-processing networks and reduce the physical and psychological symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
This Breath-Body-Mind training is approved for 23.5 to 30 Continuing Education Credits for social workers (SW), psychologists (PSY), athletic trainers (BOC), certified counselors (NBCC), and members of the Yoga Alliance (YA). For registration and more information call (800)741-7353 or follow the link at http://www.kripalu.org/presenter/V0004595/richard_p_brown.

2011-06-14
Paternal smoking may affect how soon a woman experiences menopause, as discussed by Dr. Shoreh Ershadi, director of the ANTIAGING Institute of California. Studies have shown that men who smoked when their partners were pregnant had daughters who reached menopause about a year sooner than average. A father who smoked would have a greater impact on the reproductive lifespan of his daughter than her own husband's smoking would.
Regardless of when menopause starts for a woman, it can be a disturbing time, accompanied by symptoms that are disruptive to a woman's lifestyle. ...
