COLUMBUS, OH, June 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) The 2011 Ford Edge was recently named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Technology. This prestigious award is given to cars that receive the highest possible ratings in the IIHS evaluations. The 2011 Ford Edge is also available at Cambridge Classic Ford.

In order to be named a "Top Safety Pick", cars must endure rigorous testing by the IIHS. Vehicles are evaluated in front, side, rear, and rollover crash-test protection. The highest score a car can receive in each test is "good." To receive the designation, as the Edge has done, a vehicle must receive a "good" score on all four tests, and offer electronic stability control as a standard safety feature.

There are several features on the 2011 Edge that helped it achieve the "Top Safety Pick" status, thanks to Ford's heavy focus on vehicle safety. Adaptive cruise control automatically changes the speed of the Edge in response to traffic conditions to maintain a preset distance between the Ford crossover and other cars on the road. BLIS with cross traffic alert detects vehicles in the blind spot while driving. It also detects approaching traffic on the sides of the Edge while in reverse. MyKey allows parents to monitor the settings of the crossover, such as vehicle speed and audio volume, when teenagers are behind the wheel to encourage safe driving habits. Finally, collision warning with brake support leverages in-vehicle sensors to help reduce speed, prepare brakes, and alert the driver when the system detects an imminent accident.

The "Top Safety Pick" award is just another designation for the popular crossover. The Edge has been named "Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year" and, thanks to a best-in-class EPA rating of 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway, has made its way onto several best-seller lists.
