Likewise to Talk Mixed Networks at Upcoming Conferences

Gerald Carter speaking at Storage Developer Conference and Linux Plumber's Conference

2010-09-17
BELLEVUE, WA, September 17, 2010 (Press-News.org) Gerald Carter, director of engineering for Likewise, will bring his expertise on managing and securing mixed networks to two technical conferences this Fall -- presenting "Scaling Likewise-CIFS Beyond 50K Concurrent Connections on a Single Node" at the Storage Developer Conference (SDC), and "Linux Multi-tenant File Servers using Likewise-CIFS" at the Linux Plumber's Conference (LPC).

Carter is Likewise's project lead for Likewise Open, and was a member of the Samba core development team for more than a decade. Carter has been developing, writing about, and teaching on open source storage topics since the late 90's — and has spoken at events such as OSCON, SambaXP, USENIX LISA, among many others. He is the author of "LDAP System Administration" and co-author of "Using Samba" for O'Reilly Publishing.

SDC is the SNIA Technical Council's conference for the technical community working on storage architecture. At SDC, which will be held September 20 through 23 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Santa Clara, Calif., Carter will present "Scaling Likewise-CIFS Beyond 50K Concurrent Connections on a Single Node." Attendees will learn about achieving high levels of scalability for SMB/CIFS file servers using the Likewise CIFS file server. Carter will show how Likewise CIFS has been able to handle more than 50,000 simultaneous client connections on a single four-way SMP system configured with only 8GB of RAM.

The LPC is the annual gathering of developers working on the Linux kernel, libraries, and utilities vital to Linux. Held in Cambridge, Mass. from November 3 through 5, Carter will present on "Linux Multi-tenant File Servers using Likewise-CIFS." Carter will explain how the Likewise CIFS architecture allows Linux hosts to work concurrently with multiple, disparate Microsoft Active Directory domains.
