New MEN Micro Ethernet Board Enables High-speed Data Transfer over Long Distances

CompactPCI Serial-based board features four 1000Base-SX channels

2011-06-25
AMBLER, PA, June 25, 2011 (Press-News.org) MEN Micro Inc., a world-renowned provider of embedded computing and I/O solutions for mission-critical industrial, mobile and harsh environment applications, now offers the G211F, a rugged 3U CompactPCI Serial Ethernet Interface board that accommodates four fiber optic Ethernet transceiver channels (1000Base-SX) for high-speed connections over extended distances up to 1,800 feet (550 m).

Connected to the backplane via a PCI Express x4 link and managed by a single IEEE 802.3x-compliant Ethernet controller, the board's four channels provide data transfers of up to 1,000 Mbit/s when used simultaneously.

To enable highly flexible configuration, the board accommodates a wide range of SFP (small form factor package) transceivers that are quickly and easily inserted into the card cage, which hosts the optical adapter. Each interface features LEDs to indicate link status and activity.

The new G211F supports both full and half duplex operation depending on the chosen transceiver, such as an LC-duplex available from MEN Micro, covering a broad range of rugged, embedded applications requiring high bandwidth capacities as found in transportation, avionics and mobile medical equipment. As an alternative to the four channels, the board can be configured with two redundant channel pairs for safety-critical applications.

An extension to MEN Micro's growing CompactPCI Serial product line, the new peripheral board can be used in both pure CompactPCI Serial systems as well as in hybrid systems that utilize CompactPCI PlusIO boards. The single-slot G211F extends the number of Ethernet interfaces on the system slot CPU.

Screened operating temperature is -40°C to +85°C excluding the transceivers. With a heat sink, the board weighs less than a half pound. It can withstand shock up to 50 m/s2 (30 ms) and vibration up to 1.9 m/s2 (5 Hz to 150 Hz) during operation in a maximum of 95% non-condensing humidity. At 40°C, MTBF is 311,742 hours according to IEC/TR 62380 (RDF 2000).

Pricing for the G211F is $644. Delivery is six to eight weeks ARO.

Decoding the Mystery and Hype of Skin Care: What Actually Makes a Great Skin Care Product?

2011-06-25
The basics: A basic cream is just an emulsion. It will moisturize your skin but your wrinkles will not diminish, the firmness and tightness of your facial skin will not change and your complexion will not improve. Many emulsions are made with petroleum or a synthetic base and will block the skin's pores. People know this by now and yet it is amazing that in 2011 so many products are still made this way. The key reason is price. They are cheap and will create a protective barrier over the skin, but not the type of barrier our skin needs. Unfortunately their synthetic ...
