MIAMI, FL, June 30, 2011 (Press-News.org) In 2003, David Meunier bought and rehabilitated an eyesore of a complex at 2158 NW 5th Avenue and created affordable, quality apartments for low income and government assisted tenants. After selling the property, he returned years later and was saddened to see the building revert back into its original state. Due to a lack of maintenance and attention, the building was rendered unsafe and dilapidated.
Mr. Meunier again acquired the property, and has turned the complex into Sober House Living Environment, a 46-room facility for persons recently released from various treatment programs, corrections facilities, and the homeless. The dormitory style rooms are pre-decorated and ready for immediate occupancy. Included in the rent cost, the facility also offers several amenities including a common room, cable TV, internet access, shuttle service, and air conditioned rooms. Also included in the price, Sober House provides toiletries such as toothbrushes, tooth paste, bath soap, shampoo, shaving supplies and more. This helps make the resident's re-entry to society as easy as possible; residents only need to bring his/her clothing, and everything else is provided for them. Disability clients may qualify for a discounted rate.
Residents at the facility come from all different backgrounds and treatment programs such as courts, probation, VA hospitals, mental health providers, and homeless shelters. At Sober House Living Environment these individuals can expect to be directed towards a full-support system to ease them back into society. Activities and aid include: community gatherings once a month, educational opportunities, employment opportunities, aid in returning benefits, (i.e Veterans and Social Security), assisting with setting up bank accounts, as well as personal enrichment projects, setting tenants up with a personal email, and facilitating offsite NA / AA meetings, in addition free shuttle service.
Sober House understands that re-entry to society is not an easy process, so they are there to re-enforce an extensive and multi-level transitional re-entry process which helps each resident move upward and onward.
Mr. Meunier has specialized in developing rehabilitation projects in Miami-Dade County, and the Clearwater / St. Petersburg area since 1999. He is currently pursuing development projects throughout Miami Dade County.

"South Florida has been greatly affected by the nation's housing bust and landlords are struggling to meet their mortgage payments. However, this has created new housing options for ex-offenders. Living centers, a Miami-Dade Reentry Task Force initiative, has created a win-win situation for landlords and returning citizens - landlords get an opportunity to fill their vacancies and ex-offenders get an affordable and decent place to live. Wynwood Sober Living, based in a community where a large number of returning inmates intend to reside, has led the way in the transitional living centers initiative and has become a model for reentry efforts across the country".

"I have been staying at Sober Living for 8-months. It has helped me allot to stay clean, before this I was on drugs on the streets with nowhere to go, and since I've been here I have been getting my disability checks for SSI (Supplemental Security Income) and I have been doing really good here."

"I have been living at Sober House for about 7 months. I first came to Miami about a year ago, I had been sober off of crack cocaine and I had nowhere to go and Wynwood Sober Living let me in when I didn't have any money. Since then I have been working, I am a security guard. Wynwood Sober Living gave me my life back. I am so grateful to be here."
