BOULDER, CO, July 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Shelby American Collection, a non-profit museum dedicated to preserving the heritage of American racecars designed by Carroll Shelby, will celebrate its 15th anniversary at a special event here on August 6th focusing on the Cobra-Ferrari Wars that defined the zenith of the American auto industry in the 1960s.
"The Cobra-Ferrari Wars represent one of the greatest chapters in American automobile history," said Shelby American Collection President Steve Volk. "Our anniversary party celebrates this history, and brings together the cars and drivers of the 1965 Shelby American team that secured the World Sportscar Manufacturers Championship for the first and only time. This event will highlight our innovative past with the historic Shelby American Collection's Cobras, GT-40s, Shelby Mustangs and Ferraris, and we'll have the promising future of American car manufacturing on display as well with the new 2012 Ford Mustang and Roush 2012 Stage 3 Mustang, courtesy of Sill-Terhar Motors."
The party will also include:
• A special autograph session with the world championship team drivers Bob Bondurant, Jack Sears, Allen Grant, Lew Spencer, Tom Yeager and artist Bill Neale
• Two of the most significant cars in Shelby's quest for the World Championship: the CSX 2299, the Le Mans/Sebring/Daytona-winning Cobra Daytona Coupe and CSX 2345, the SPA/ Sierra-Montana/Tourist Trophy/Rossfeld Hillclimb-winning FIA Cobra Roadster
• Outdoor vintage car show
• Live '60s music
All proceeds will benefit the Shelby American Collection by aiding in the restoration and preservation of the classic cars, and helping fund museum operations.
