A new report by TUI has found that Brits seem to be changing their habits when booking holidays abroad. Trends are showing that the traditional 2 week breaks have reduced in favour of the previously less popular 10 and 11 day stays. It suggests that cash strapped families are cutting back in the difficult economic climate and saving their cash by cutting their holiday budget.Thomson Holidays owner TUI has also found that the all inclusive packages are on the rise with a 24% upper shift in the all-in deals, with families able to control their budget by reducing the amount of spending money required on their holiday.
There is a lot of pressure on UK consumer income; however foreign travel sales still seem to be fairly strong despite the economic gloom. It's just that people are trying different ways to save money while still managing to get away as usual.
In another report it was stated that almost 40 per cent of Brits will stay at home this rather than take a summer break, in an attempt to save money for day to day expenses. Banking giant ING Direct reported that the amount of people opting for a holiday in the UK is set to also fall, as almost nine out of ten of families who are doing without a summer break away this year would normally take a holiday in the UK.
James McGuire, press spokesperson for VoucherBuddy.co.uk said UK consumers are trying many different ways to reduce expenditure, and it looks like the annual holiday break could be the next sacrifice to help balance the books.
On a brighter note another poll found that 6 percent more Brits were planning to pay for their holiday out of their savings rather than on credit, indicating that the UK can stave off another credit crisis despite the gloom.
