HOLLYWOOD, FL, July 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) Students from the Fuvis Christian Learning Center in Fort Lauderdale visited the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center located at 2031 Harrison in Hollywood, Florida last month. The visit included a view of the infamous rail car, one of nine in the world of those used in the Holocaust. The students viewed a short movie about the rail car and the horrors people faced while on it. A Survivor, Ruben Offenback, came to speak with the students after which they were allowed to ask him questions.
The tour is part of the Holocaust Documentation and Education's outreach program which also includes: The Educational Outreach department conducts the following programs:
Student Awareness Days that are prejudice reduction symposia whereby 250 to 500 high school students at each program learn the dangers of racism, hatred, and bigotry through videos, lectures, and round-table discussions with Survivors of the Holocaust.
The Speakers' Bureau provides speakers in schools, community organizations, churches, and synagogues.
The Teachers' Institute provides in-service credits to teachers from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties public schools. Three hours of university graduate credit toward recertification can also be obtained.
The Student Act of Kindness Contest requests that students share their "acts of kindness" with us and how they changed someone's life. We will award the top ten entries with a $100 United States Savings Bond, and each of the winners will have their names inscribed on our wall of "Students Making a Difference."
The Annual Student Visual Arts and Writing Contest invites students to send in their experience and thoughts in a visual or written format.
State of Florida Resource Manuals on Holocaust Education was created in response to the The State of Florida Department of Education mandate that commissioned the Center to write the first statewide resource manuals on Holocaust studies for grades K-3, 4-6, and 9-12. These manuals, plus the manuals for grades 7-8, have been distributed to all private, public, and parochial schools in the state of Florida. They are available to teachers on CD and can also be downloaded here for educational use.

About the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center
The Holocaust Documentation and Education Center, founded in 1980 as a nonsectarian, non-profit, multifaceted organization, is housed in Hollywood, Florida at 2031 Harrison Street and will feature the first South Florida Holocaust Museum. The museum will put names and faces to the victims and will raise the sounds of their moral voices of conscience to mute the noise of prejudice and hatred.
The museum, which will be the first in the country to teach the story in English and Spanish, will teach the universal lessons of the Holocaust. These lessons are a significant moral tool in teaching values, pluralism, responsibility, and respect for human dignity, decency, and life to this and future generations. In preparation for school class tours, the museum will provide information for teachers to help prepare their students.
