Wisconsin Attorney Brian Mahany Named to Board of the International Association for Asset Recovery

WILWAUKEE, WI September 19, 2010

The International Association for Asset Recovery (IAAR) this week named Milwaukee, Wisconsin attorney Brian Mahany to its 28-member Board of Advisors. Brian is the first attorney from Wisconsin to be named to the board and one of a few from the United States.

The IAAR is an organization of law enforcement, private attorneys and international financial experts dedicated to recovering assets derived from illegal activity or withheld from their rightful owners. (www.iaaronline.org)

"Taking back the ill-gotten gains of wrongdoers and obtaining compensation for victims of economic crimes is a powerful tool to keep the public safe and fight corruption," said Brian Mahany. "I am honored to be selected to the board of the most prestigious organization in the world dedicated to fighting fraud and corruption."

The advisory board is made up of the top experts and opinion leaders in the asset recovery field.

Asset recovery is a relatively new legal specialty. The Madoff scandal, widespread money laundering and increasingly sophisticated financial crimes that frequently cross international boundaries fueled the need for a dedicated group of professionals that could combat fraud and help victims recover their hard earned money. "Putting fraudsters in jail is only half the solution," said Mahany. "We need to make victims whole and take away the financial incentive for criminals to commit these crimes."

A lawyer for 26 years, Mr. Mahany has also served as an Assistant Attorney General, state revenue commissioner for the State of Maine, a law enforcement officer and currently as an attorney in private practice. His practice concentrates in asset recovery, complex frauds and recovering money for crime victims. His practice is nationwide.
