NEW ORLEANS, LA, July 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) With the workboat industry's emphasis on safety, maritime companies need to report, track and analyze near-miss reports so the number of serious incidents can be reduced or prevented. How to implement a proactive accident prevention program will be the topic of a free WorkBoat.com webinar on Wednesday, August 3.

"There are widespread issues that complicate successful implementation, from humanistic concerns to economic benefits," said Ken Hocke, senior editor for WorkBoat, who will moderate the webinar. "This presentation will discuss the rationale for near-miss reporting, including identification of near misses and net benefits of increased reporting, as well as best practices in change management and adopted strategies to increase crew participation."

Hocke said the presentation will also take a look at the role of data and how companies can adequately plan their analysis from beginning to end of the program's implementation.

Ron deBruyne, founder and CEO of Edoc Systems Group Ltd., will be the featured webinar speaker. Edoc's Helm Marine Operations software is one of the leading operations systems in the workboat industry. DeBruyne has been CEO of the company for 12 years. His experience implementing enterprise software in the workboat industry has allowed him to test and validate change management strategies in a variety of environments.

DeBruyne currently chairs Edoc's Safety Advisory Board, which is made up of safety educators, auditors and officers from across the workboat industry. The goal of the board is to assist in the development of a Safety Management System built specifically for the workboat industry.
