ATLANTA, GA, July 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) P1 Groupe driver Scott Wimmer was given the opportunity to drive the #87 NEMCO Motorsports Toyota for friend Joe Nemechek in Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide Series Race at Nashville Superspeedway. Nashville has always been a track that suits Wimmer's driving style, and he once again proved that this past weekend. Wimmer showed that he can run fast lap times in any stock car, and when the #87 Toyota was unloaded off the truck it was shown in the Top-25 on the speed charts for both practices. When it came time for qualifying Wimmer seemed to have found another gear qualifying the car in the 14th position. The confidence level in the #87 pit and garage sky rocketed with the veteran Wimmer behind the wheel.
As the race started Wimmer kept the car in the Top-15 of the field, and with solid pit stops all night as well as a well executed fuel strategy, Wimmer was able to bring the Toyota home in the thirteenth position. The finishing position not only gave NEMCO one their best finishes, but it also gave Wimmer the Featherlite Most Improved Driver of the Race. The award was given to Wimmer because he improved his finishing position in the last two races by twenty-nine positions. He finished 42nd in his last race and 13th at Nashville. The weekend was a success, and the enthusiasm could be seen on Wimmer's face after the race.
"I appreciate that Joe put me in and glad we were able to get a good result for the team. I was really pushing for a Top-10, and the car was able to run consistently over the long runs, but we didn't quite get there" states Wimmer.
Following this weekend's race in Nashville Scott Wimmer sits 22nd in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Driver Championship Points Standings.
