NEW YORK, NY, August 06, 2011 (Press-News.org) The heat wave continues at Empire City at Yonkers Raceway throughout the month of August with a wide variety of promotions and activities that its patrons will find very "cool." From comedy showdowns between area firemen and policemen to live music and ladies specials to a Jackpot Jumble game to the World Driving Championship, it's a month filled with fun for everyone.
The World Driving Championship Final will be contested on Friday, August 5, with top harness drivers from 10 countries competing on Yonkers' historic half mile oval. Fans can enjoy free T-shirts and a Beer Garden with international beverages.
Mondays and Thursdays in August will be highlighted by the Jackpot Jumble Game Card with over $100,000 in cash and prizes. On those dates, Empire Club members can visit a Promotions Booth to receive two free Jackpot Jumble game cards. Members can also receive one additional game card for every 100 Empire points earned on Mondays and Thursdays. Additional game cards must be redeemed at a Promotions Booth on the day that they are earned.
Hosted by WHUD's Mike Bennett at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, the "Bravest vs. the Finest" will showcase selected local firefighters and police officers from across the region - from New York's five boroughs to Westchester and the Hudson Valley - who have what it takes to make people laugh. Qualifying rounds will take place on Aug. 11, 18 and 25, and the Final showdown will be held on September 8.
The popular "Young at Heart" series aimed at seniors 55 and up continues on Wednesdays, when Members receive a Young At Heart Gift Pack, which includes including $5 Free Play, Half Price Valet, and 10% off food and a free gift. Live bands performing noon and 2 p.m. shows as part of the program include "Beauty and the Grease" (Aug. 3), The New Yorkers (Aug. 10), The Chicklettes (Aug. 17), Peter Lawrence Orchestra (Aug. 24) and The Guss Hayes Band (Aug. 31).
On Tuesdays (Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30), female patrons will receive a "Lucky Ladies" Bonus Package, including a $7 Free Play, 10% off food Plus and Ladies Only 2-for-1 specialty drinks from 5-9 p.m. and Karaoke starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Entertainment Lounge.
