CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA, August 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) Bell Shakespeare will bring their re-imagining of the classic play Julius Caesar to Cairns at the end of September.
Associate artistic director Peter Evans has taken the original plot but transported it to the contemporary world of backroom politics, turning the production into a sharp drama about affairs of state.
Describing the piece, Mr Evans insisted Julius Caesar is never out of date and still feels "relentlessly modern".
"We witness the original pre-emptive strike and the irony of the 'honourable assassination' with all the carnage that a power vacuum creates," he explained.
Starring Alex Meglet in the lead role and Kate Mulvany as the scheming Cassius, the play is set to take the stage at Cairns Civic Theatre on Tuesday September 27th and Wednesday September 28th.
The show is scheduled to commence at 19:30 local time on both nights and run until 22:30.
Early bird tickets are available online until Saturday August 27th priced at AU$36, while standard adult passes cost AU$42. School students aged between three and 17 can get in for AU$18.
Founded in 1990, Bell Shakespeare's first season included productions of Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice.
Theatre-goers can choose from a diverse range of last minute accommodation in Cairns at LateRooms.com.au.

This appears to allow teams to avoid the inflexible thinking experienced by fatigued individuals," said Daniel Frings, PhD, a senior lecturer in social psychology at London ...
