Enlightened Piano Radio-Our Official Launch

OMAHA, NE, August 31, 2011 (Press-News.org) Donovan Johnson loves piano music. So much so, that he's pioneered a radio station that's devoted to it. And not only is the radio station devoted to piano music, it's committed to artists of the genre who live and work independently of their art.

"I was so tired of the struggle, and I knew that there were many others out there with the same struggle to contend with. I wanted to help, and creating "Enlightened Piano Radio" was one way in which I could do that."

Donovan is an Omaha Nebraska pianist and educator, who's been involved in the music scene there for a number of years. "It's all about the look these days, it's about the presentation and the polish and the flash. It's about fun and excitement. It's about everything but the music. What I create comes from my heart, my soul, and the same is true of my colleagues. It doesn't have to be loud, and it doesn't have to be "hip," although it can be. It just has to be real. Genuine. Inspiring, or thoughtful. That's what music needs to be for me to completely embrace it. Other styles and sounds act as friendly acquaintances, but instrumental piano music is the "one" best friend who will never leave me."

In his efforts to help other pianists of the "contemporary" genre Donovan put together "Enlightened Piano Radio," which is a radio station featuring solo piano, as well as piano and ensemble or piano and instrumentation. Styles range from Classical, to Contemporary, to New Age, but all of the music is original. As a result, Donovan was also able to put together a network of original musicians and composers with similar goals, expectations and struggles in their craft. "It's truly great. I hand picked each of the artists on my radio station, and I'm in touch with them regularly. I let them know that I'm always available to lend a hand. Each month we have a "featured artist" on the station website, which consists of some extra publicity for them, complete with bio, photo and event information, as well as additional airplay on the radio station. It feels great to make a difference to these people, and to our listeners."
