New York Law Gives Grandparents the Potential Right to Visit Minor Grandchildren
A grandparent can feel every bit as loving and protective of their minor relative as the child's parents. Unfortunately, in some cases, that relationship can be cut short through divorce, relocation of a former in-law or the death of one of the child's parents. Grandparents are not completely without options, however. In many states, including New York, grandparents have the right to petition a court to get visitation rights, even if the child's current custodial parent opposes a relationship.

A Mathematical Formula Now Determines Temporary Spousal Support
In many ways, it can be the most dreaded part of divorce proceedings: the determination of alimony (also known as maintenance or spousal support). Alimony, of course, is a court-ordered monthly payment amount one spouse pays to the other while they are separated, in divorce proceedings or after they are divorced. A whopping $9 billion is spent in alimony annually, IRS data shows. The goal of spousal support is to ensure the lesser-income ...

Options for the Marital Home After Divorce
Property division can be a contentious part of divorce proceedings. Center to those negotiations is the marital home. For the vast majority of homeowners, the house is the most significant asset owned. Both spouses likely have title to the home, and both spouses are likely co-borrowers on the mortgage itself. While resolving the status of the home can be tricky, there are options that can make each party to the divorce satisfied with the outcome while protecting the credit of each.

Teen Driving Accidents on The Rise During Summer
More crashes involving teenage drivers occur in the summer months of June, July and August. In the state of Maryland, from 2005 through 2009, more crashes with injury occurred during June than any other month. June also took third place for the number of car wrecks with 16-20 year-old drivers.
This doesn't necessarily mean teenagers are more careless drivers during the summer months. With school out and more free time, younger people spend more of their time on the road driving. There are, however, several tips teenage ...

Traumatic Brain Injuries: Closed Head Injury
Controlling all bodily functions, memories and thoughts, the human brain is the most complex organ in the human body. While important, the brain is susceptible to trauma and the result can be life altering. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when the brain collides with the inside of the skull; resulting in damage to the brain. While some causes of TBI may be more obvious such as fractures or contusions, another cause, closed head injury, may be less conspicuous.
Closed head injuries, also referred to as concussions, are ...

Hospital Error Reporting and Federal Program to Prevent Errors
Health care systems in America are considered some of the best in the world; however, the system is not perfect and is in a state of reform because of the increasing number of preventable medical errors. Yet, many more errors go unreported. As a result of this growing problem, the federal government announced a new initiative to combat this public health issue.
In April 2011, the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) unveiled its Partnership for Patients: Better Care, Lower Costs (PFP) program. ...

The Social Security Administration (SSA), which has served the most vulnerable Americans for decades, discovered years ago that some Supplementary Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program participants were likely to receive disability benefits their entire lives. Many of these beneficiaries wanted to work, but were limited by SSA program rules which mandated that benefits recipient were unable to engage in "substantial gainful" employment. As a result, the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement ...
