LONDON, ENGLAND, September 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) With over 20 years of dedicated work within the investment banking sector, Scott Mead has begun to showcase his artistic talents in a number of exhibitions, with his most recent works being exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition.

Scott Mead's two photographs on display at the Summer Exhibition are an untitled piece and a piece entitled Evening Light. Evening Light was created in 1975 during Scott Mead's college years at Harvard College, when he studied under recognized American photographers William Eggleston, Emmet Gowin and Minor White. The photograph, part of a series of black and white shots portraying rural New England, was taken using a special technique that simulates exactly how the eye captures a visual perspective; such a print was virtually impossible to achieve during the time the photograph was created. Taken in 1975 and forgotten in the attic for over 34 years, the photograph was rediscovered in 2009 along with the rest of the series shot by Mead. The second piece in the Summer Exhibition, "Untitled", is also a black and white photograph; the haunting piece depicts a beach with closed beach umbrellas and clouds hovering over the entire scene.

The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, recognized as perhaps the world's largest open submission contemporary art show is known for highlighting works from a wide range artists , from lesser-known to world renowned. The annual Summer Exhibition, now in its 243rd year, involves an open invitation to all artists interested in participating in the exhibit. This year 12,000 artworks were submitted from 27 countries and approximately 1,200 works were selected to be on display. The exhibition includes a wide range of mediums including sculpture, painting, printmaking, architecture, drawing, film and photography.

Located in Piccadilly, London, The Royal Academy of Arts was founded in 1768 by King George III who looked to establish an organization that would promote art through exhibitions and education. The first Royal Academy Summer Exhibition took place in the spring of 1769 and has been held annually without interruption ever since.

Scott Mead studied American History and Literature at Harvard College, and later earned his M.Phil and JD law degree from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, respectively. Although passionate about photography from the young age of 13, Mead put his artistic pursuits on hold while developing a career in investment banking both in New York and London.

Prior to this most recent exhibition of his work at the Royal Academy, in the fall of 2010 Scott Mead held a solo exhibition of the entire series of photographs, including Evening Light, at London's Hamilton Gallery. Proceeds from the exhibit, Looking Back, were donated to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity to provide support for establishing a Gene and Cell Therapy Laboratory. Currently, Mead is in the process of preparing another solo exhibition, Looking Forward, planned for 2012.
