EMCO Software Offers a Brand-New Solution for Waking Up Computers Over a Network

The new EMCO WakeOnLan utility for Windows allows network administrators to wake up network computers over a local network using the Wake-on-LAN technology.

2011-10-06
REYKJAVIK, ICELAND, October 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) EMCO Software, a provider of software solutions for computer network management, announced today the availability of the brand-new EMCO WakeOnLan utility. This utility is based on the Wake-on-LAN (WOL) technology and allows network administrators to wake up network computers remotely. Although WakeOnLan was created for the Windows platform, it allows sending Wake-on-LAN packets to computers running Windows, Linux, MAC OS and other platforms so as to wake them up.

The WakeOnLan utility provides network administrators with all features required to use the Wake-on-LAN technology in large corporate networks. In particular, it can collect MAC addresses from network computers automatically using multiple methods designed for different types of network environments. Also, the utility can send Wake-on-LAN packet using the best suitable transmission method depending on the particular network configuration. Wake-on-LAN packets are sent to multiple computers in parallel to guarantee high performance rate in large networks.

The free version of the WakeOnLan utility offers features that allow initiating wake-up operations for one or multiple network computers manually. The commercial version allows full automation of Wake-on-LAN operations. Network administrators can create and assign wake-up tasks to be executed on schedule. It is possible to create tasks for one-time and recurrent execution. The utility provides an intuitive visual interface for managing scheduled tasks and controlling their execution state.

"Our Wake-on-LAN solution is targeted at implementing WOL in corporate networks. Such networks usually have diverse configurations that may influence the Wake-on-LAN configuration. Our WOL utility offers flexible configuration options that allow customizing it for use in different networks. In most cases, network administrators can rely on the integrated adaptive technology that automatically selects the best configuration for a particular network. In case of problems, WakeOnLan provides a detailed logging that helps to troubleshoot the problem quickly", Thorarinn Oskarsson, CEO at EMCO Software, said.

Availability
EMCO WakeOnLan is available as a freeware and commercial versions. It can run under Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2000 both x86 and x64 platforms.
