This places Dr. Chen among a select group of "entrepreneurs, innovators, and business people who left home and made their mark in the U.S." With his company's international headquarters in Los Angeles, Sunrider is now enjoying its 28th year as one of the world's most important manufacturers of health and wellness products.
In order for the Sunrider boss to qualify for this exclusive Forbes list, he had to be born in Mainland China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong, and currently maintain citizenship in the U.S. Other criteria included leadership within the honorees respective industries and communities, plus "scale of economic success, such as wealth and jobs created." The list was further narrowed by the results of a survey of prominent business associations, scholars, entrepreneurs, investors, and bankers.
This marks the second time that Forbes Asia magazine has featured the Sunrider creator. In March of 2009, Dr. Chen was honored as one of the world's "48 heroes of Philanthropy." A special report in that issue noted his many worldwide charitable contributions. In addition to be being, involved in the day to day operations of Sunrider, Dr. Chen also owns hotels in Beijing and Taiwan, and has his image on a postage stamp in China.
Born in Taiwan, Dr. Chen came to the U.S. with his wife Oi-Len and started Sunrider in 1982. Kenneth Wincorn has learned that in 2008, 46% of all marriages involve a remarriage for one or both spouses. In fact, it is estimated that 40% of all marriages have ended in divorce as of 2008. On average, first marriages that end in divorce last about eight years. Of the first marriages for women from 1955 to 1959, about 79 percent marked their 15th anniversary, compared with only 57 percent for women who married for the first time from 1985 to 1989.
