NOVI, MI, October 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) Local smartphone application Mobibo will be using its platform of offering exclusive discount deals to consumers as a way to donate to charitable causes. Mobibo will allow its users to directly contribute to charities through their app.
Mobibo (a short form of Mobile Billboard) is a free smartphone app available in the Apple Store and Android Market. Once downloaded, it will alert the user when they are in close physical proximity to one of their exclusive retailer discounts. For simply viewing the deal, the user is paid 25 cents. They can then choose to redeem the discount, but are paid regardless.
However, with a charitable motivation, Mobibo will be alerting their users and directing them to a cause, encouraging them to make a donation in the name of charity.
The team at Mobibo has set up notifications around Metro Detroit to alert users to the charitable cause of the month. Upon viewing the alert, the user will then be directed to the charity's website, where they will be encouraged to make a donation if they so choose.
"Mobibo is all about changing the way people interact with advertising," said Zachary Ball, co-developer of Mobibo. "We figured we might inspire other charitable organizations to embrace new technology platforms to spread their message. Even if it doesn't catch on, we're happy spreading the word about a good cause."
Users will be paid as usual for viewing the charity alerts, same as they would with any other alerts, courtesy of Gravy Network, the company responsible for Mobibo. The initiative launched in October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and will continue with other charities being featured in coming months.
Metro Detroit native Ball developed Mobibo along with his brother, Josh, through their company, Mercury Studio, also based in Metro Detroit
For more information, check out Mobibo.com and "Like" them on Facebook and be sure to go to the Apple Store or the Android Market for the free Mobibo download.
