PASADENA, CA, November 24, 2011 (Press-News.org) Under Teles' Real Estate Agent, Phillip Coombes leadership, the "Put the Fork in Hunger" campaign produced over 10,300 pounds of food last weekend for the Pasadena Union Station Homeless Services. According to Rabbi Marvin Gross, the Union Station's chief executive officer, the food collected by the campaign will provide an estimated 10,000 meals for people across the area. Much of the donations will be used for the Station's annual Thanksgiving Dinner event.
The drive was held in Pasadena where Pasadena and Saint John avenues diverge, the current home of the now-famous "Fork in the Road" sculpture. Two years ago, Coombes, and his friends Bob Stane and Ken Marshall celebrated the art sculpture by organizing the first "Put the Fork in Hunger" food drive which generated two tons of food. Two years later, the drive has nearly tripled its takings for the community.
"We at Teles Properties are very happy to be involved in this worthwhile food drive. We all know it has been a challenging economic environment. Yet, the real estate community is known for its outreach and giving back to the communities we work in and love," said Phillip Coombes. "As the Holiday season approaches, we reflect on all we have to be thankful for, and to help those in need. Please join us as we work to make the "Put a Fork in Hunger" food drive a wildly successful event"
Last year, the fork was missing from the food drive due to its removal for refurbishment, but returned in time for this year's drive. "Now that the fork is up permanently, we're talking about doing a bunch of things throughout the year, maybe once a quarter, whether it's a food drive or a toy drive that we have planned to launch tentatively in December," said Coombes.

Fiction Fills Gap in Schools' Critical Thinking Lessons - Author Russ Wallace Uses Historical Fiction Aimed At Tweens To Stimulate Strategic Thinking
2011-11-24
Throughout the centuries, storytelling and fiction have been popular classroom discussions to present real life situations and problems, and examine resolutions. Instructors encouraged students' dialogue of options and kindled critical thinking.
However, Wallace believes the twentieth century's speedier lifestyles and educational changes in today's classrooms have resulted in rigid and formulaic sessions. Wallace's theory seems to bear out in his conversations with today's educators.
