EAST SUSSEX, ENGLAND, November 25, 2011 (Press-News.org) With World Aids Day approaching on 1st December, travel accessories company, World Wide Nets, are reminding travellers to be careful to avoid the risks of AIDs when travelling. The World Health Organisation has estimated that 33.4 million people are living with AIDs around the globe, causing 2 million annual deaths. It is one of the most destructive pandemics in history and there is no cure. AIDS is a disease is caused by the infection HIV, which can be transmitted in many ways.
Sexual transmission is the most common way in which HIV is contracted. Safe sex and condom use can prevent the transmission of HIV and should always be employed, whether travelling or at home.
World Wide Nets understand that sharing needles and medical equipment can also spread HIV, not only during drug use but also during hospital use. Once a person receives an injection, a small amount of their blood may remain on the needle or syringe. If this blood is infected with HIV and the equipment is reused, then other patients can be infected with HIV up to four weeks later, even if the item has been rinsed. Three of Kazakhstan's hospitals were found in 2007 to re-use medical equipment, including syringes. Resources to sterilise equipment are lacking in some developing countries, which is why it is important to carry a first aid kit when travelling.
As well as traditional First Aid kits for treating basic injuries with sterilised gauzes and dressings, World Wide Nets sell more comprehensive medical emergency First Aid kits. The Professional First Aid kit was compiled by tropical doctors, and contains different types of sterilised needles and syringes to help prevent the spread of blood borne infections such as HIV. It even comes with a medical certificate written in different languages to explain to foreign health professionals that they should use this equipment.
World Wide Nets offer international delivery and free postage within the UK, making it easier than ever to stay safe and in control when travelling. They have over 20 years experience working in the travel health industry, and their staff include qualified travel health nurse advisors.
Jane Bell, Director of World Wide Nets, said:
"It is essential to take sterilised medical equipment with you when travelling to less-developed countries. The threat of AIDs is still very present, and we all need to remember this on World Aids Day. Our website http://www.worldwidenets.co.uk shows travel advice tailored to the country which you are visiting, as well offering a vast range of travel accessories."
At World Wide Nets you can select a wide range of the best travel accessories on the market.
