Blanket America Provides 510 Blankets to Hurricane Irene Flooding Victims

Blanket America recently donated 510 fleece blankets to support flooding victims of Hurricane Irene in Greene County, N.Y.

2011-11-25
NEW YORK, NY, November 25, 2011 (Press-News.org) Blanket America - a textile manufacturer located online at http://www.BlanketAmerica.com - recently donated 510 fleece blankets to victims of flooding from Hurricane Irene in Greene County, N.Y. These blankets are part of the manufacturer's BUY 1, GIVE 1 program; for every product purchased, Blanket America donates an American blanket to an individual or organization in need of relief.

"We're extremely thankful to our customers for enabling us to donate such a large number of fleece blankets to flooding victims from Hurricane Irene. These blankets are going to help people who have lost their homes and their belongings, people who are working to rebuild their lives," said Mesh Gelman, founder of Blanket America.

Blanket America has posted photographs of the blankets to be donated to its Facebook page, where the company keeps fans up-to-date on its charitable outreach, new products, and special promotions, in addition to providing general information about the state of poverty both at home and abroad. The blankets manufacturer also posted a graphic showcasing the names of the many of the customers whose purchases corresponded to the 510 donated blankets.

Hurricane Irene caused record flooding in New York's Greene County. The region's Schoharie and Shinglekill Creeks overflowed their banks, flooding many streets, parks, and residential areas.

"There is a long list of names that need everything. One family lost their home, their two cars, all their belongings and FEMA handed them $5,000. No trailer to live in, and nothing else. I know a blanket isn't going to change their circumstances, but my thinking was that something of their own would give them comfort at a time where there is no comfort to be found," said Loretta McLaughlin, who is coordinating the American blanket donations for the Greene County flood victims.

Blanket America's support of Greene County, N.Y. is part of the company's larger effort to fight poverty both in and out of the country. The textile manufacturer has donated fleece blankets to organizations throughout the U.S., including the Baring House nursery in Pennsylvania; the Violence Intervention Program of California; Las Vegas's East Valley Services, a family support center; and the state of Oklahoma, where the company distributed 13,000 blankets to various individuals and organizations.

Blanket America has also offered many resources to the people of Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake in 2010. The blankets company's CHOOSE HAITI initiative is working to rebuild the economy by creating a demand for Haitian-made products, including CHOOSE HAITI bracelets and necklaces.

To learn more about Blanket America, visit http://www.BlanketAmerica.com or call the blankets manufacturer at 1-800-478-4523.

Blanket America offers fleece blankets and other textiles under the unique BUY 1, GIVE 1 policy, guaranteeing that every woven blanket purchased means one blanket given to an individual or organization in need. Visit http://www.BlanketAmerica.com to provide immediate aid when buying your next woven blanket or cotton sheet set.
