Groundhog Day Celebrated as Underappreciated Holiday at Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls
2011-12-23
COLUMBUS, OH, December 23, 2011 (Press-News.org) In an effort to relieve the angst cold-weather state residents experience as they await relief from winter's chill, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is launching a new package designed to mark Groundhog Day. The inn invites guests to visit Feb. 1-2, and enjoy an evening of friends, food and fun in warm celebration of this obscure holiday -- regardless of whether or not Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow. Inn reservations and additional information are available online at www.innatcedarfalls.com or (800) 653-2557 (1-800-65-FALLS).

Starting at $159, the Groundhog Day Special includes:
- Lodging for two for one night in a cozy inn guestroom or cottage, Feb. 1 (the night before Groundhog Day)
- Dinner for two prepared by the Inn's renowned chef, Anthony Schulz
- A special showing in the inn's Gathering Place of the quirky comedy "Groundhog Day," starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell
- Popcorn with the movie showing
- A full country breakfast for two

After a good night's rest, guests can wake up for the official Feb. 2 Groundhog Day celebration, when everyone will discover if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, signifying six more weeks of winter. After breakfast, guests can search for a groundhog on their own, while hiking through the hundreds of acres of state parks and state and national forests that surround the inn.

Groundhog Day is celebrated every year on Feb. 2. According to folklore, if weather is cloudy when the groundhog emerges from its burrow, he'll leave the burrow and winter weather will soon end. However, if it's a sunny day and the groundhog sees his shadow, he'll retreat back into his burrow and winter weather will continue for six more weeks.

A Hocking Hills Tourism Association Certified Green destination, The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is located 1/2 mile above Hocking Hills' scenic Cedar Falls. The region offers a variety of recreational opportunities including hiking, bird watching, canoeing and fishing, as well as exquisite photo opportunities. The Inn's pampering spa offers a full compliment of spa services, including couples massage, girlfriend getaways, bridal parties and group events. Fine American cuisine is the specialty at the Inn's dining room and meals are prepared with the finest organic herbs, produce and ingredients. The Gathering Place at The Inn at Cedar Falls caters to weddings, family reunions, business retreats and organizational brainstorming sessions of up to 50 guests. Reservations and complete information on the Inn, Spa and Gathering Place are available at www.innatcedarfalls.com or 1-800-653-2557 (1-800-65-FALLS). The inn is a member of Select Registry Distinguished Inns of North America.
