Prasad Cosmetic Surgery and Medi-Spa Offers Vampire Facelift

Prasad Cosmetic Surgery is the only practice in the New York area to offer this non-surgical facial enhancement treatment.

2012-01-05
NEW YORK, NY, January 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) Prasad Cosmetic Surgery and Medi-Spa, a boutique medical practice specializing in facial rejuvenation, body enhancements, hair loss solutions and aesthetic skin care, is the first practice in the New York City and Long Island area to offer the Vampire Facelift , a non-surgical facial enhancement treatment that uses the patient's own growth factors in their blood to enhance areas on the face.

Unlike a traditional facelift, which requires surgery and a considerable recovery period, the Vampire Facelift improves facial volume and appearance the same day with no downtime. As the face ages, the skin loses bone, muscle and fat volume and support, creating sagging and droopy skin. By using natural growth factors in your blood with a filler, such as Restylane or Juvederm, and injecting it back into the skin, the Vampire Facelift reduces facial creases and wrinkles and provides a younger looking appearance instantly.

As simple as giving blood for a lab test, a patient's blood is then processed and the platelets, which are cells that stimulate collagen for healing, are separated and platelet rich plasma (PRP) is created. The PRP is made into a Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) and is placed back into the patient's skin and the growth factors stimulate the stem cells of the skin thus creating a younger looking appearance.

The Vampire Facelift was developed by Dr. Charles Runels. Prasad Cosmetic Surgery's cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Amiya Prasad, spent time with Dr. Runels and his patients to learn more about the procedure and receive training on how to perform the procedure. "I had heard about Dr. Runels work and the Vampire Facelift and was impressed with the results and benefits to the patient," said Dr. Prasad. "I am thrilled to be able to bring this innovative procedure to our patients at Prasad Cosmetic Surgery."

Harp seals on thin ice after 32 years of warming

2012-01-05
DURHAM, N.C -- Warming in the North Atlantic over the last 32 years has significantly reduced winter sea ice cover in harp seal breeding grounds, resulting in sharply higher death rates among seal pups in recent years, according to a new Duke University-led study. "The kind of mortality we're seeing in eastern Canada is dramatic. Entire year-classes may be disappearing from the population in low ice years – essentially all of the pups die," said David W. Johnston, research scientist at the Duke University Marine Lab. "It calls into question the resilience of the population." The ...
