Popularly known as the "Squircle", this award is given to the author of the best novel written in south Brooklyn that reflects the multicultural nature of the area.

Jeffra Hays: Lifelong resident of Brooklyn, Jeffra Hays has absorbed her multi-ethnic experiences and transformed them into a moving love story. Told by an opinionated white grandmother, "Cocoa Almond Darling" relates the woman's history, her love for a married black man, and the daughter they share. Although this slightly illicit family of three try to avoid racial tensions, those tensions are there, erupting, and disrupting, their love for each other.
