The featured column contains questions and answers about all aspects of divorce. "Divorce touches everyone," says Aunt Mollie. "Either yourself, a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a coworker has been through a divorce or is divorcing now. But just because it's common doesn't make it comfortable. Mentioning the d-word stirs a whole pot of emotions."
Advice columns are numerous, but the Aunt Mollie column is the only weekly column specifically devoted to divorce issues. "Everyone, it seems, has something he want to say about divorce in general or about a particular divorce situation. This column is the venue for a question/answer dialogue," Aunt Mollie stated. Each column has a comment section where any visitor may post comments without a login or signup.
In the U.S., half of all first marriages and 60% of all second marriages end in divorce. These grim statistics reveal the massive American audience for divorce advice and information.
Introducing the column to the Internet provides a global audience for the Aunt Mollie divorce advice column. For instance, in the UK last year, divorces increased by almost 5% and numbered about 114,000.
The Aunt Mollie divorce advice column will cover blended families and step parenting issues, the divorce process, relationships with the ex-spouse and ex-in-laws, child custody and visitation problems, dating after divorce, etc. Unlike many advice columns, the 'Advice for the Divorcelorn' column is solution-focused, offering practical steps to solving divorce problems.
Aunt Mollie considers her divorce advice to be homespun. "I have been giving advice to the divorcelorn with a hot cup of tea for more years than I can remember," she says.
Aunt Mollie's divorce advice is filled with original, pithy sayings, such as: "Your marriage isn't your life; it's who you live your life with."
The new website also features comprehensive divorce articles on high-interest topics like 'The Effects of Divorce on Children', 'Celebrity Divorces' (a wrap-up of celebrity divorces for 2011) and 'Quotes about Divorce.' The collection of quotations about divorce will be updated frequently and anyone can send in a suggestion for the list. "These are divorce quotes you won't find in other collections on the Internet," Aunt Mollie emphasized. The quotations also include a selection of funny divorce quotes, giving a little comic relief for the serious subject.
The website also features poems about divorce. The 'Poems about Divorce' section will be open soon for user-generated content, according to Aunt Mollie.
