SOUTHFIELD, MI, September 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) Ciena Healthcare Management announced that Autumnwood of Deckerville, one of Ciena's skilled nursing and rehabilitation communities located in Deckerville, has earned the Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which signifies a "much above average" rating.
Five stars is the highest and most respected rating a nursing home can receive, and is based on health inspections, staffing and quality measures.
"One of the big reasons for our success is the fact our management team is locally based," said David Dean, administrator, Autumnwood of Deckerville. "We are a part of this community and many staff members have relatives that are residents here. We really are a family at Autumnwood and that's exactly how we care for all our residents."
CMS developed the Five-Star Quality Rating System to assist consumers, their families and caregivers in finding and comparing nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas to ask questions.
"The driving factor with Five-Star ratings is compliance," adds Dan Echler, regional director of operations, Ciena Healthcare. "Consistency is important as well. Autumnwood of Deckerville has a great staff and very low turnover. The state surveyors always see the same faces when they return, along with the positive results our community consistently delivers."
The rating system for U.S. nursing homes was modeled after the American Automobile Association's worldwide rating of hotels. It gauges comprehensive aspects of elder care, including staff-to-resident ratio, cleanliness, staff ability to prevent and treat simple medical problems and attention paid to upkeep of patient appearance.
"This five-star rating demonstrates the high level of service, quality and responsive resident care that is provided by Autumnwood of Deckerville and all our skilled nursing communities 365 days a year," said Mohammad Qazi, president of Ciena Healthcare.
"We are extremely proud of this recognition and our dedicated, hard-working team of professionals who provide unparalleled care here and at all 36 Ciena communities."
