LateRooms.com - Get Reading at the York Literature Festival

The York Literature Festival is back for 2012 and will bring the likes of Tony Benn and Ian McMillan to the historic city.

2012-02-23
YORK, ENGLAND, February 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) The York Literature Festival returns in late March with a typically diverse line-up of readings, performances, workshops and other special events.

Now in its fifth year, the festival exists to celebrate York's rich cultural heritage and showcase the work of local writers, as well as inviting literary figures from around the country.

Writers due to appear at this year's edition, which will run from Thursday March 29th to Sunday April 1st, include 'the bard of Barnsley' Ian McMillan and historian Neil Hanson.

There will also be a performance from Tony Benn and Roy Bailey on Saturday March 31st, with the politician and the folk singer teaming up to present their acclaimed show The Writing on The Wall.

This production offers a history of political dissent in words and song, tracing events from the Peasants' Revolt of the 14th century to the present day.

Other highlights of the festival programme include a guided stroll through literary York on Thursday March 29th, which will give visitors a chance to visit the birthplace of WH Auden and learn about the city's connections with the Bronte sisters and Charles Dickens.

Tickets for the events are individually priced and some will be free of charge.

Literature fans can browse a wide variety of York hotels at LateRooms.com, which recommends Marmadukes Boutique Hotel.
