One of the more interesting ways to reduce carbon output is being introduced by The Pedal Coop, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit that serves to help Philadelphians reduce their carbon footprint and re-discover bicycles as the most viable and convenient mode of transportation in Philadelphia. In what may be the first service available in the nation to recycle electronics with zero footprint, Pedal Coop has partnered with eForce Compliance to provide commercial and residential customers in Center City & South Philadelphia with electronic recycling services that are both compliant and environmentally friendly.
Electronic recycling has become a hot topic in environmental circles as the need for recyclers to remain compliant with ever increasingly difficult regulations has grown substantially. Currently, two certifications are recognized as the standard in the electronic recycling industry: R2 and e-Stewards. eForce Compliance is one of only 9 electronic recycling firms that is certified to both standards and maintains a zero export of hazardous e-waste to developing countries policy in addition to a no landfill processing system.
