Hotels-Paris.co.uk - Head to Paris for Memory of Place

Memory of Place showcases 19th century photographers' ability to record landscapes and moments in history.

2010-09-25
PARIS, FRANCE, September 25, 2010 (Press-News.org) Fans of photography could check out Memory of Place in Paris, which showcases a collection of images from the Musee d'Orsay's archives.

Running until November 28th 2010, this stunning exhibition offers examples of how photographers between 1840 and 1870 began to explore the possibilities of the art form as a way of remembering moments.

Art enthusiasts heading to the museum to see the pictures in the Memory of Place collection should remember that the camera was still in its early stages of development in the 19th century.

The technology being used at the time made recording the "changing aspects of nature" quite difficult, according to the venue, but photographers such as Roger Fenton and George Barnard found they could capture images of important landscapes.

Among the snappers featured in the display for Paris hotel guests to see are Charles Negre, Victor Regnault and Viscount Vigier.

"The inauguration by Queen Victoria of the Northern railway line that she took to Paris on her visit to the 1855 Universal Exhibition, enabled Edouard Baldus to demonstrate his remarkable sense of drama," a spokesperson for the venue added.

All of the images contained in the collection come from the Musee d'Orsay's own archives, which boasts nearly 50,000 pictures.

Entrance to the museum costs EUR8 (GBP6.80) and the building is open from 09.30 to 18:30 local time every day except Mondays - when it is closed - and Thursdays, when it does not shut until 21:45.

For more information on this event visit the Musee d'Orsay website or contact the venue on +33 (0)1 4049 4814.
