St Thomas, USVI based Day Boat Charter Company Start-Up Story Catches the Attention of National Business Publication.

2012-03-14
ST. THOMAS, USVI, March 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) What's more romantic than the idea of tossing the daily grind and relocating to a stunning tropical island? Well, nothing for the owners of St. Thomas based day boat rental company, Pirate's Paradise Adventures. Their story was the subject of a feature article in Home Business Magazine for April, 2012.

About 10 years ago, Brian and Leigh Woeller were residents of crowded Southern California, with 2 hour daily commutes to high pressure jobs that made raising their four children challenging. "We had very little time with the kids, and no time for each other," said Leigh Woeller. "We weren't happy, and we didn't want our kids to grow up and fall into the same pressure cooker that we found ourselves in. We knew we had to make a change."

So, together, Brian and Leigh started to dream. They pictured the best possible situation for themselves, and their children. Working together at something they loved and doing it in a place that made them happy was priority #1. They wanted something the whole family would be passionate about and involved in, and would allow them to set their own schedule. The decision to start a boat charter company took all of about 10 minutes. The next question was where to launch it.

The entire family embarked on a mission to find the perfect place to start a business and eventually call home. Their search took them from the Hawaiian Islands, through Mexico, the Bahamas, Aruba, Curacao, Grenada, Barbados, St. Marteen, St. Lucia, and finally to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. "We knew immediately that was where we wanted to be," said Brian. So, with every dollar they had, and some they didn't, Pirate's Paradise Adventures was born.

Since 3 of the 4 Woeller children are still in high school, the Woellers launched the business from their California home, traveling to the Virgin Islands as often as possible. "Starting this charter business was a huge undertaking, and running it from halfway around the world is not without its challenges," said Brian Woeller, "but we're glad we did it. We've got a very unique product in the style of boat we offer, a great group of captains, and an exceptional value for our customers as well. We love that our customers tell us that their day on our boat was one of the best of their lives. Working for ourselves doing what we love was the best decision we ever made."

Home Business Magazine featured Pirate's Paradise Adventures because the Woeller's story was right in line with the issue's "virtual profits" theme, and highlights the ability to use technology to operate a business without geographic boundaries.
