CHARLESTON, SC, March 15, 2012 (Press-News.org) Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina helped with the South Carolina Special Olympics Mid-Winter Games at McAllister Field House in Charleston, South Carolina on Saturday March 3rd 2012. Attorney Guthrie participated as a scorekeeper for the basketball skills portion of the Mid-Winter Games. The basketball skills event was sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of The South Carolina Bar. There were about one hundred athletes that participated in the basketball skills competition.
There were three different stations to the basketball skills competition. The first station of the basketball skills competition was passing skills where the athletes must pass the basketball from a distance and hit a target against the wall. The second station was a dribbling contest where the athletes were timed when dribbling from one end of the basketball court to the other. The third station was a shooting competition where the athletes took two shots each from six spots on the basketball court. There were two to three athletes in each section and each athlete went through the stations two times. The cumulative scores of each athlete were then tallied and a gold, silver, and bronze metal was awarded for first, second, and third place. The faces of the athletes lit up when they had their names announced over a loudspeaker in front of all the cheering spectators. The athletes that participated in the basketball competition all won by competing and had a lot of fun along the way. The Young Lawyers Division of The South Carolina Bar also gave a ten thousand dollar check to the SC Special Olympics before the competition. Attorney Evan Guthrie was glad to be a part of such a worthy event and looked forward to participating again next year.
