The Six Degrees of (Friends) Separation
Sky customers in reality are never more than a few channels away from their favourite Friends stars.
LONDON, ENGLAND, March 20, 2012
We at MyVoucherCodes.co.uk love Friends (and, let's be honest, who doesn't?) The day that Joey, Rachel and the gang bid their final farewells to Central Perk was a sad day indeed.Whilst watching countless re-runs the other day, we got to thinking; even though the sitcom is no more, Sky customers in reality are never more than a few channels away from their favourite Friends stars. In its 10-series run, the show had more famous pals drop by as guest stars than a party at Elton John's house. So we got to thinking some more; even though the show is no more, can we ever really escape it?
We have a theory that, as per the 'Six Degrees of Separation' idea, Sky TV customers are never really that far away from being linked to Friends at the click of a remote; whether it be through the main characters themselves, or one of the countless guest stars who have appeared.
So we put it to the test. Here are just a few examples of how, in one way or another, we are always attached to Friends through means of just a few degrees of separation:
- Courteney Cox- One of the main stars of Friends. Courtney now has her own show, 'Cougar Town' on Sky Living.
- Matt LeBlanc- Also one of the main stars of Friends. Matt recently appeared on BBC2's 'Episodes' and won a Golden Globe for his efforts, which was also televised.
- Tom Selleck- Monica's older man and regular guest to the show. Tom is now sporting his famous moustache in Blue Bloods on Sky Atlantic.
- Jane Lynch- Monica and Chandler's estate agent for the house in which they bump into Janice. Jane is now in her role as the hugely popular Sue Sylvester in Glee on Sky 1.
-Hugh Laurie- Rachel's confidante on the plane to see Ross before he marries Emily. Now starring in the very popular House on Sky 1.
- Elle McPherson- Joey's 'hot roommate'. Now picking the UK's most lovely looking models on 'Britain and Irelands Next Top Model' on Sky Living.
- Alec Baldwin- Phoebe's 'upbeat' love interest, who puts a positive light on EVERYTHING. Now starring in the very popular TV series '30 Rock' on Comedy Central
- Charlie Sheen- Phoebe's Navy lover who comes down with the Chicken Pox with her. Now starring in constant re-runs of Two and a Half Men on Comedy Central (but we all know how that one turned out. #winning)..
Of course, this is just a snapshot of how we're never too far away from Friends, and through several degrees of TV separation will always be linked to them. We haven't even mentioned other big-ticket guest stars such as Robin Williams, Brad Pitt, Winona Ryder, Denise Richards, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, Ben Stiller, George Clooney, Selma Blair and Julia Roberts...
So, even though the new episodes are no more, for the meantime at least we're in no danger of escaping Friends' clutches.
