Author Eric Engel Goes E-Serial

A former in-print author has decided to take a number of his works and offer them as serial ebooks to the public—for free.

CINCINNATI, OH, March 22, 2012

Eric Engel has short stories published in several magazines, anthologies, and books, including one in Phonics For Dummies; but his latest project involves releasing new, unpublished material in electronic form as ebooks. The novellas are divided into daily emails anyone can subscribe to, most of them around 1500 words each.

"I heard that serial ebooks were getting big in Japan," says Engel, "especially with the younger crowds who generally read them on their phones. Most people wouldn't want to sit and read an entire novel from their e-devices. But they can handle a couple of pages from one--and that's what I give them. Just a few pages. Enough to keep the story moving but so much that someone would get overwhelmed."

Currently, subscription to the serial ebooks is completely free. Engels says that he may one day charge for subscriptions... or he might go the other route and stick a few advertisements in each installment of the books. But for now, he wants to see how many people are interested in reading serialized ebooks.

"I know for a fact that there are an awful lot of people who would rather have the entire book at once," he says. "But we have a new generation of readers in the market right now, and it's important to me, as a writer, to find a way to connect with them. To give them the kind of content they want in a format they enjoy."

Engel says that most of the works available on his site are psychological thrillers. "In some of them, there's an element of scifi as well, but I wouldn't call them scifi books necessarily. I focus more on plot and character development than genre."

Eric Engel's stories are available on SerialEbooks.com.

Serial eBooks delivers great fiction directly to your email address in short, readable bursts. One novel or novella is cut into daily sections... enough to keep the story going without being overwhelmed by huge amounts of text.
