NEWPORT BEACH, CA, March 27, 2012 (Press-News.org) Newport Beach estate planning attorney and mom, Darlynn Morgan, along with her colleagues and the OCBA President, has recently spearheaded the formation of Mommy Esquire, a committee of the Orange County Bar Association. Women lawyers nationwide seek to achieve that ever-elusive balance of legal work and family life. Hence, in January 2012, Mommy Esquire was formed—the first OCBA committee that focuses specifically on practicing lawyers with school-age children. Estate planning lawyer, Darlynn Morgan, of Morgan Law Group, will serve as Chair of the newly formed committee.
"Mommy Esquire" is geared toward women lawyers with small children, although the committee is open to daddy lawyers too. The word "Mommy" paired with the more formal "Esquire" reflects both professional and familial domains for attorney parents. Mommy Esquire will offer professional networking, social events, education, support, and provide a forum for discussion about issues of particular concern to parenting attorneys. The Committee seeks to provide mentoring from attorney mothers who have prospered as practicing attorneys and support mommy lawyers who are navigating big firms and other legal positions.
"There are numerous challenges that all moms with small kids face, but especially so when trying to juggle young children and an intense and demanding career," says mom and probate attorney, Darlynn Morgan. "Mommy Lawyers need a support group. Moms of small children band together to support each other and share resources and tips, but up until now, Orange County hasn't had a Moms group for lawyers, dedicated to addressing the unique challenges we face," Morgan adds.
In addition to monthly lunch meetings, Mommy Esquire hosts events that celebrate and incorporate families, so that more lawyers with young children will be able to participate in meetings and events.
