Clowning Around at Geneva's World Circus 2010

The circus is in town, or more specifically, in Geneva. For one whole year, the city folks would be entertained by clowns in colourful costume, magicians with their endless trickery, fire-eating men and many more spectacular antics.

2010-08-18
August 18, 2010 (Press-News.org) HolidayCity.com - It certainly looks like the whole of Geneva has literally gone to the circus as the city takes on the role of the International Circus Capital 2010. For one whole year, the city would be the meeting point for performers from 65 countries who would be entertaining thousands of spectators at 300 events. Geneva hotels can expect a healthy occupancy rate throughout the year as they accommodate the thousands of travellers and circus enthusiasts that would be making their way to the city.

When it was first organized in Lausanne in 1987 by Youri Messen-Jaschin, it received more than 500,000 visitors, making it one of the most successful circus festivals. This year, the year-long festivity would showcase a variety of circus performances such as gravity-defying trapeze acts, magic shows, fire-eating stunts, experimental street theatres, burlesque knife- throwers as well as exhibitions, musical concerts and workshops, among others. There is even a new Swiss stamp being rolled out to commemorate the circus festival.

Lee Lai Huat, CEO of HolidayCity.com, and who also enjoys a night out at the circus said, "What else can be more fun than being entertained by clowns with big, red noses, crazy juggling acts and trapeze artists swinging from one swing to another high above the ground? Geneva should certainly be on the list of places to go this year especially for circus fans." He went on further to remark, "Go to Geneva and be entertained. Bring the kids for this rare opportunity to be amazed by some of the more amazing stunts by professional circus entertainers. And check out the huge discounts on Geneva accommodation being offered by HolidayCity.com."
