U.S. Putting Tour Announces Host Site and Dates for 2012 National Putting Championship

Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, California has been named the host site of the 2012 U.S. Putting Tour Championship, to be held September 26 through October 2.

CARLSBAD, CA, April 04, 2012

The U.S. Putting Tour announced today that Morgan Run Resort and Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California has been named the host site for the 2012 USPT Championship, which will take place from September 26 through October 2.

The second annual USPT Championship, known as "America's Putting Championship," will feature Pro and Amateur Divisions. The total purse in the Pro Division will reach $50,000 with a full field, including $20,000 for the winner, according to U.S. Putting Tour president, Jim Hartley. Men and women compete together in the Pro Division, which is open to everyone 13 years of age and older.

"I expect to see golfers from all across the country participating in the Championship," said Hartley. "With the event being held in Rancho Santa Fe at Morgan Run Resort, any golfer who likes to compete, whether as a pro or an amateur, will want to be a part of the week."

The Amateur Division consists of four brackets: Men (13 and older), Women (13 and older), Seniors (men and women 55 and older) and Juniors (boys and girls 10-17 years of age). Amateurs in each bracket will compete for the title of "America's Best Putter," crystal trophies, and merchandise prizes in accordance with amateur status rules. Over $12,000 in merchandise prizes will be awarded to Amateur Division competitors.

The USPT is taking entries now for the 2012 USPT Championship Golfers can enter online at the USPT website or download an entry form and mail in their entry. The entry fee into the Amateur Division is $100 and into the Pro Division is $250. By entering, participants also will be eligible to play in on-course amateur and pro golf tournaments run by the putting tour throughout the Championship.

The U.S. Putting Tour also allows PGA club professionals, men's and ladies' clubs, mini-tour operators, charity tournament organizers, other tournament directors, and entrepreneurs to hold official qualifying events for the USPT Championship.

The inaugural USPT Championship was held in 2011 and drew 227 participants. The winning professional was Ronnie Pritchett, who earned $10,000. Scotland Schmidt was the low amateur.
