SUNBURY, PA, September 28, 2010 (Press-News.org) Are you concerned about the increase in workplace violence? Does your company have a complete workplace violence training program for employees of all levels? Well, here's your chance. Because internationally recognized self protection and personal safety expert, Jeffrey M. Miller, will be presenting a 2 hour webinar (web-based seminar) on the topic of, "Why Prevention is Not Enough!" to help human resource, safety, and crisis management managers get this vitally important training into their companies. The program is being offered on both Wednesday, September 29th, and Thursday, September 30th, 2010.
Miller, the director of WCI Consulting, a company that focuses on the development and implementation of workplace violence employee safety programs, is the co-author of two recent books, including: "Workplace Violence In Mental And General Healthcare Settings," James & Bartlett Pub., 2010; and "GIS In Hospital and Healthcare Emergency Management," CRC Pub., 2010. He says that, "In today's often violent world, self protection training is not longer a choice, it's a responsibility."
The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration reports that 17 to 20 workers are murdered on the job every week. And, another 33,000 are beaten, raped, robbed, or otherwise attacked. In addition, other health and safety organizations around the world are showing that this is not a uniquely "American" phenomenon either. In fact, statistics show that workplace violence is a global problem, with no job, or company being immune to the danger.
Miller believes that, while self defense and personal safety are a personal responsibility, more and more companies are losing law suits instigated by employees who were injured during an act of violence in the workplace because the company had no such training in place. "And," he points out, "with 1 out of every six criminal attacks occurring in the workplace, your place of employment could possibly be the most dangerous place you could ever find yourself!"
"The nature of violence is that it is random," says Miller. "That means that it is a problem unlike just about any other that a company might encounter. Unfortunately, there are far too many who are living in denial, ignorance, or making decisions based on misinformation that puts employees at much more risk each and every day."
The webinar will be offered using internet technology, so as to reduce the overall travel, monetary, and time expense of a typical training seminar. Participants will have the choice of listening in via webcast, or joining the presenter in the live phone conference for real-time Q & A. Topics to be covered during the event include: 4 reasons the common approach to workplace violence doesn't work; a common management mindset that is putting employees at risk; the 5 attacker types who commit acts of violence in the workplace; an 8 phase training model which shows that physical self defense is only 1 part of the total solution.
The cost of the seminar is $147 and includes the live training presentation, as well as a full recording of the seminar, course handout, and the benefit of adding up to 2 additional managers from your company in the same session. Attendees may also choose from 2 sessions or the presentation. The Wednesday, Sep. 29th session will begin at Noon (Eastern time), and the Thursday, Sep. 30th session will begin at 3pm (Eastern time).
